Cuil: a new search engine
Just read on Techcrunch about cuil, a new search engine which claims to have more 120 billion pages indexed. I’m not sure yet about its accuracy and relevancy, but I did a search with my name and the results are slightly different from Google – and it’s a column based layout rather than a list which in fact I quite liked.
Google street view mapping in UK
This is from Techcrunch UK:
Somewhere in Google’s picture archive of UK streets there is now a picture of a man holding up a camera, photographing the moment when Google’s unmarked Street View car captured his London street in a full 360 degrees. How do I know? Because he sent me the above.

Google Android in action
Google demonstrated last week (at Google’s I/O developer conference in San Francisco) its new Android prototype featuring a full screen and multi-touch display (yes, like the iPhone). At the moment there are no compatible devices on the market but it will change later this year, when heavy weight mobile phone manufacturers will release their products.
Google is focusing its strategy on developers, providing a complete SDK, support and development tools for them. It also promoted Android Developer Challenge, a competition which will provide $10 million in awards for those who create the best Android applications. By the way, you can check the winners here:

Definitely will give Apple a challenge. Competition is good for everyone!
Google’s intranet

Even though these are quite old screengrabs (2006) it’s amazing how Google provides simple yet powerful internal tools for their employees. The sense of community and collaboration are embedded in everything and it’s reflected on their public tools.
“Google Ideas looks like a forum to submit new product ideas. Others can then rate the product (from “Great idea! Make it so” to “Dangerous or harmful if implemented”) or discuss it, and there’s also a “buzz” factor to evaluate the usefulness of a suggestion”
“At the address https://expert/, employees can find co-workers with a special expertise, perhaps to get help for their own projects”
Check the original post here with more examples. I want an intranet like that!
