Google’s intranet

Even though these are quite old screengrabs (2006) it’s amazing how Google provides simple yet powerful internal tools for their employees. The sense of community and collaboration are embedded in everything and it’s reflected on their public tools.
“Google Ideas looks like a forum to submit new product ideas. Others can then rate the product (from “Great idea! Make it so” to “Dangerous or harmful if implemented”) or discuss it, and there’s also a “buzz” factor to evaluate the usefulness of a suggestion”
“At the address https://expert/, employees can find co-workers with a special expertise, perhaps to get help for their own projects”
Check the original post here with more examples. I want an intranet like that!
Dell do a similar thing for their customers. Have a look at http://www.dellideastorm.com/.
Customers can suggest new ideas or improvements to Dell’s existing product range. Then can also vote on ideas – so the cream rises to the top! This is good customer service, since customer satisfaction grows among people who are asked what they want. It’s also good business – Dell get an R&D forum for nothing!
